One group of residents of 30-year-old Anand Vihar society built by the Gujarat Housing Board (GHB) is in favor of the redevelopment, while the others are opposing it. On February 2, the Gujarat High Court has asked AMC and GHB to demolish the illegal construction done by some residents of the society following a petition filed by a group of residents who favored redevelopment.
The GHB and AMC started the move to demolish the illegal constructions in the society in October last, but some residents resisted. The other group filed a plea to demolish the construction which the HC allowed on February 3. Now, the aggrieved section of residents have filed an appeal in the matter.
Anand Vihar apartment society is a 132-unit lower income group (LIG) scheme developed by GHB about 30 years ago. The society has 11 blocks spread over 5,100 sq yards near the BRTS corridor. According to realty sources, the land price in the area is about Rs 2.25 lakh per sq yard, taking the land price of society land to about Rs 117 crore.
Sources said about 60 residents favour redevelopment of the society and vacated their units, while others do not agree to the plan.
